12/24/08 UPDATE
Sooooo, for all those who wanted to help out, now I have a few opportunities!
A) Someone to clean their house while they’re at chemo on Monday 12/29/08 (between 9am-12am). Out of respect for J&E, we’d prefer that the cleaning crew arrival/cleaning/departure all happen while J & E are gone. ![]()
B) Meals for Monday, Wednesday,Friday (I will post a list of allergies/preferences/restaurants etc. hopefully tomorrow. This will be a trial run to see how frequently they might need meals. Also, the doctors suggest that J try to avoid eating her favorite foods during chemo because vomitting is common and favorite foods quickly get associated to ‘not favorite foods’.
)
C) Stocking their fridge/pantry with staples (list will be provided in the next few days
)
If you’re interested in any of the above action itmes, comment on this post or email me directly. Thank you, in advance, to everyone who has offered and will be faithful to serve J & E!!! You are all showing how God provides… ![]()

1) Yard Work (mowing, light weeding)
2) Work in conjunction with Sam to design and print custom Thank You cards from J&E
3) Be in rotation to clean the house (we need 1 more person/group that would be willing to do it semi-regularly)
4) Bring Jennene Lemon Drops for chemo ![]()
5) Add to a seedling collection of hats/scarves. Modern and cool!
If you have any questions, PLEASE comment, call me, text me, Facebook me, whatever…

12/30/08 UPDATE FROM JENNENE
-I welcome any tips on what I should eat and drink that won’t make me nauseous! )
-”Oh, something else people can do — if they have great worship music/ song/ artist suggestions (esp. modern, newish worship music) that they think I may be encouraged by, they can maybe post it on a little listmania type thing?
Also, verses they may wish to share, particularly about healing, and lastly, good Christian biographies and Christian classics suggestions that I would get a lot from reading at this time, or other such suggestions, particularly from chemo experienced people, but I’d love to hear from everyone whether they’ve had chemo or not. All just ideas…
Thanks!”

12/31/08 UPDATE REQUEST
REQUESTS
1) J has asked for recommendations (see above): music, verses, movies, Christian classic books that will encourage her in her faith, particularly about healing. Some of you have already given suggestions…keep them coming! Thank you!
2) Yesterday, J was saying how she’d really like one of these pillows (not necessarily that color
)

Sooo, I was talking to a friend of mine today who lost her husband several years ago. She’s young and has three kids (1 is now in college, 1 in high school, and 1 in junior high). She saw the LORD work/minister in amazing ways: some very practical and some very spiritual.
Here are some of her pieces of advice for people who are wanting to serve… The main gist is ‘Be Pro-Active’!
1) If you’re going to sign up to bring food, might want to call and see what J is craving…different meds affect tastebuds
2) Maybe set up housecleaners while Jennene is at chemo therapy so she can come home to a clean house and not be there during the cleaning (chemicals/social pressure)
3) Instead of ‘offering’ to mow the lawn, just ‘go’ mow the lawn.
4) A friend recently had cancer. Did the ‘Makers’ diet (google it) and had virtually no chemo side effects.
Might want to check it out.
5) Make a sign for her front door & bedroom door (cuz she has roommates) so people can know if she’s taking visitors
6) Have a prayer team that faithfully prays during certain times (chemo, surgery, consistently difficult things like not sleeping or whatever..)
7) Start buying cool scarves and beanies and earrings (will some metals be bad for her?)
8- Listen to the Holy Spirit and then obey it…

I found this site several years ago when I had a different friend who had cancer. I put it on my bookmarks page, cuz I KNEW I would be referencing it throughout my life.
Though this isn’t a ‘Christian’ site, there are a LOT of great tips for how to serve someone with cancer… for many people not knowing ‘what to do’ is a huge paralyzing fear. This link offers great suggestions in the following categories:
UPON FIRST HEARING THE NEWS
BOOSTING HER SPIRITS
HELPING HER FAMILY
SUPPORTING CHEMO
TALKING TO YOUR FRIEND
FOR HER HUSBAND OR PARTNER
GREAT SITES FOR SMALL GIFTS
While not everyone responds the same and some of these ideas may not be totally relevant for Jennene, they can be morphed or be a brainstorming tool.

I’m catching on to the Blog thing. Love the ideas of ways to help. We “doers” find great solice in activity.
I will be looking for more hints.
Thanks for the updates Sam.

During my Mom’s chemo she decided she was going to eat whatever sounded good, which was ice cream! She didn’t lose a bunch of weight because she allowed herself ice cream every day =) Just a ‘funny’ story; maybe you’ll enjoy some ice cream

Sam, I’m keeping up with these updates and am so thankful to be praying for Jannene and her husband. Our mom went through breast cancer 5 years ago, so I’m another one of those many who are connected by similar experience. I’m praying for you too as you walk with her along the way, for your energy and service. Thanks for the updates! Pass along my compliments on the cut– wonderful!

I am unsure where to write things…I am not super computer savvy!! Sam keeps talking about blogs and pages for suggestions and this is the only place I know where to go :s There are two books by Amy Carmichael that are super encouraging and even more super challenging: Gold by Moonlight and Rose From Briar. She wrote them both after a bad fall into a pit permanently disabled her and she spent the remainder of her life bedridden (don’t know the time frame). She may have been bedridden but her spirit was soaring. She says people who haven’t experienced pain shouldn’t write about it. Her biography by Elizabeth Elliot is also incredible (called A Chance To Die). She also wrote the very small booklet “If”; it is about the challenge of whether we truly know ‘calvary love’. It is only small sayings beginning with ‘if’ and then they challenge our behaviors and thoughts in light of calvary love. You can only digest one saying at a time because they are so poignant. Take heart
(I was going to write something encouraging but I ran out of characters in my first message!!) Free advice is worth what you pay for it (as my dad would say) so take it or leave it =) Even if the books are not for this season, maybe later. I spend some time having theological debates with ‘Amy’ as I read. We don’t always agree, but for the most part she touches me like no other writer!! Bless you both with every spiritual blessing in Christ. May you see them (and Him) more clearly!!!
I am definitely NOT computer savy… I hope this comment gets to you! In any case, I will also email you through your school email account. Jennene, I just read about your request for a chair-pillow. I have one for you! Let me know where and when I can drop it off. The best of God’s blessings come through trial. I am praying for you!
